Persian Carpet Zinnias

Category:
In our mind's eye, we usually imagine Zinnias as happy-go-lucky, big and bold flowers in a confetti of bright, happy colors. But the realm of Zinnias is delightfully diverse. One example of an out-of-the-ordinary variety is our Persian Carpet Zinnia Mixture.
This low-growing Mexican Zinnia blend features 2” single and double flowers in cream, gold, orange and deep red in single colors and bicolors. Its dwarf habit and finer-textured foliage make it an elegant choice for both garden beds and containers, and it's a wonderfully productive cut flower. The plants grow to only 12" to 18" tall.
This classic summer flower may be seeded directly into the garden after the last frost date. Plant them 1⁄2" deep in well-draining, loamy soil with full sun. Keep the soil uniformly moist until the seedlings emerge, about 7 days after sowing.
Zinnias can also be started indoors: plant 1⁄2" deep in a good seed-starting medium at 70° to 75°F, four weeks prior to the last frost date. Provide even moisture, strong light and good ventilation. Once established, thin plants to 2" to 3" apart and grow on.
Thin or transplant 3" tall seedlings 10" to 12" apart in the garden. Weed carefully and water moderately beneath the plants until established. Zinnias are prone to mildew, so provide adequate spacing and moderate ground-level watering: don’t get too much water on the plants themselves.
Did You Know?
Butterflies, hummingbirds and bees adore Zinnias! The nectar and seeds are an important source of nourishment for these delightful and essential garden visitors.
